Location: 3536 Rainier Ave, Stockton CA 95204 . Drive past the blue house at Rainier and River Drive, go up the levee, turn right into the gate, drive past the cottage on the right and park with the other cars
History: Guard Darrah, Peter Darrah's grandfather, pieced together a 24 acre parcel over the course of his lifetime. The land runs a long the Calaveras River from the Stockton Golf and Country Club to the Stockton Yacht Club. A group of hippie houseboat tenants in the 1970's gave it the name Darrahville. It's still a small houseboat marina and mostly open space.
Accommodations
Hotel: Most people coming from out of town will probably stay at the Hilton Stockton, a fine mid-range hotel. It's likely someone in our class lost their virginity at the Hilton. The Courtyard by Marriott Stockton is a higher end alternative. La Quinta Inn Stockton is a lower budget option. All three hotels are close to Darrahville, around 3 miles.
Camping: If you like camping and zero driving, there are nice places to pitch a tent on the property. Each area can hold multiple tents if you want to form a group camp. There are 2 bathrooms for the houseboat tenants campers can use. We can provide camping gear for anyone who loves camping but not carrying their gear on an airplane.
RV or Vehicle: There is space for RV's as well. Make a note when you register and we'll designate a parking place.
Darrahville Activities
Afternoon activities at Darrahville can include games like corn hole or horse shoes. There are water activities like peddle boating, canoeing or paddle boarding. If anyone has a boat and wants to give boat tours, that's fun. Walking around the land is also nice. If you want to put together an activity see the volunteer page.
Evening activities will include dinner and a bonfire. If someone wants to arrange a play list, we can add dancing. If you have a talent or something to add, it's more than welcome.
Sunday morning will be a traditional Darrah pancake breakfast including pancakes, bacon, eggs, and fruit. Come whenever you want to eat. You may be asked to help cook and serve.
Additional Information
BYOB: Bring your own beverage(s). We can provide ice, cups, and a place to mix drinks. Please drink responsibly.
Attire: Dress for gardening. Picture dusty mowed brown grass. Wear comfortable closed toes shoes.
Use at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety. The property is unpaved. There are potholes and slopes. Watch your step. If you're unsteady, be cautious around the water. If you do go boating, bring a lifejacket which we will provide. If you're camping, bring a flashlight. The property is unlit.
Accessibility: Contact the organizers if you have accessibility requirements. We want to make sure everyone can participate.
Dogs: Can I bring my dog? I'll leave that up to the dog owner and the dog. If your dog is pretty mellow and good with campgrounds filled with people and other dogs, they'll probably be fine. There are foxtails and some danger they could fall into the river. The owner will be responsible for any issues related to the dog.
